They have some sort of affinity (real or imaginary, I don't know) with the Boy Scout movement, including a 'Brownsea Island' rod range (after the Dorset island near Poole when B.P. I remember taking a look at this company some years ago. ![]() Perhaps the owners have lost interest in their venture? Ah! but I've just noticed the 2014 date on that page. so there's been quite an increase in price if the 2006 rod is the same as today's $498 ($299 on sale) March Brown Hidden Waters on their website. I think this is the article aenoon refers to, by James Matthews and from 2006? He says Ĭlick to expand. A sudden, large increase in coverage at your 'problem piece' may then indicate that the section, not the painted dot is the problem. I would expect this length to decrease a little with each joint, the least at the top, and the decrease may be in a uniform ratio as the blank slims down. set it up mark the seated position of the ferule on each spigot below with masking tape or pencil remove sections and measure how much spigot sat inside each ferule. Steve, you might try measuring the amount of spigot covered by the ferules when the rod is set up (i.e. This would require the taper to be very similar on (in this case) a #3 and a #4. My problem with 2) is that, while it might be possible for a heavier-weight upper section to fit over a smaller lower section, it is unlikely (though not impossible) that the female ferule on the next section up would then fit well on that 'heavier' section's male spigot. My issue with 1) is that this would be downright shoddy work - but that's not impossible. Prior to Bert's post my thoughts, like others', were:ġ) The spigot dot has been put on too high but the sections are correct.Ģ) The upper section is incorrect for the model, say one weight higher, hence the ferrule covers the dot. I've been puzzling over this since the op first posted and have looked at 'March Brown Rods' on Google Images to try to understand the problem from other pics. That's a great spot, Bert, however Steve says the offending section is the 4th (3rd from the top, post #6). ![]() ![]() Have attach 2 pic,s one how it should be the other how it is when pushed in the white dot disappears ?(oviously 2 different joints but hopefully you will get the idea. I have email march brown and told them also sent photos but they (over a week) have not replied, this rod was over £450 so one would expect a quick reply and an offer to put right ,but nothing ,anybody here had problems /dealing with them regarding faults? I have a march brown hidden water 3wt 7piece fly rod ,now ever since I got it and assembled it, it didn't feel right, just couldn't put my finger on it,Īny way my son says let me have a look ,low and behold right away he comes back and says ,one of the joints is going in way to far (the rod has white locating dots ) and the locating dot id disappearing into the joint (it should be around a inch away from joint) funny how when your looking for something you cannot see the wood for the trees?Īny way he said it a quality control thing (prob somehow got missed) or faulty workmanship ,the rod has been used maybe 3 times only, I new something was wrong but just could not see it. ![]()
